Coach Chad has always been active, into sports, and loved the outdoors.  Growing up he participated in many different activities and sports from hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, swimming, basketball, football, pool, karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and mixed martial arts.  He has experienced many different types of fitness throughout his life due to his many different experiences over the years.  Chad has been 145lbs and could run a 5k in 20 minutes, he has been 210lbs with his main focus being on strength, and he’s been 170lbs with his focus being on conditioning for fighting.

In 2012, as Chad was transitioning off Active Duty, his friend and fellow Coach Aaron mentioned to him that he should come give this CrossFit thing a try.  Chad’s first WOD was Fran, and he has been hooked ever since.  A little over 2 years later, in 2014, Chad went to his CrossFit Level I Certification course and found his calling in life.  He cancelled his gym membership, ordered about $5,000 worth of equipment, and started coaching anyone that would listen to him.  After getting Coach Aaron on board and growing their garage gym to nearly 25 athletes, Crooked Letter CrossFit was born in 2015, and they have not looked back since.

When Chad is not working for the Marine Corps, coaching, or working out, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children.  He also likes to get outdoors, whether that’s swimming, hunting, fishing, camping, etc.  It puts him at peace.

Since helping Chad start Crooked Letter CrossFit in his garage, Aaron is proud of how far they have come.

She then joined the Air Force in 2007 and worked as a Paralegal at Keesler AFB. After the Air Force, she obtained her Nursing Degree from MGCCC in 2015.  Cindy and her husband, Coach Ray, started CrossFit at Crooked Letter in Dec 2016 shortly after watching her sister, Carolyn, compete at her first competition, BoxLife.  Being an athlete most of her life, Cindy was drawn to being able to push herself again physically as an adult and mother of 3 kids. She genuinely didn’t think she would ever be in better physical shape and in better health in her thirties than she was growing up a very active athlete, but that is what Crooked Letter CrossFit has given Coach Cindy. In 2018, shejumped at the opportunity to become a Coach for Crooked Letter because she a true passion for this community and loves helping people believe in themselves and achieve things they never thought they could achieve.  Also with her experience as a RN, she is thankful to be in a position to help encourage people to make better and healthier lifestyle changes. Chronic diseases are leading causes of death in the US, and they are very preventable with a cleaner diet and exercise. Cindy obtained my Kids CrossFit certification in 2018 and loves being able to influence our youth to developing those good habits from a young age. She truly believe the kids we are able to train and teach will have a full advantage in their adult life against chronic disease.  If you stop by the gym at any given time, you will almost always find Cindy working on her weaknesses (with her red Rogue Bella bar) and uplifting others.

He saw that staying committed to lifting weights was extremely difficult and had it’s good and bad throughout the next few years. While running missions on deployments, Ray developed a thirst for pushing his body to its limits and couldn’t fill that void while he was home. He then found CrossFit. Friends and family had mentioned CrossFit to him multiple times, so he finally tried it. It was Fran… thinking he was in good shape, he decided to go RX.  After 16 minutes, he quit with blood running down his hands… just wait, there’s a happy ending to this.  Fast forward to Ray cheering on the same friends and family at a competition. He decided then to start CrossFit the correct way, scaling. He joined the FitFam at Crooked Letter where he continued his fitness journey focusing on a healthy balanced approach and has never once felt bored or felt the need to deviate from this path. Trust the process. Loving the community and staff at Crooked Letter, Ray decided to dive deeper and start coaching in 2017. Since then, he’s grown to love the process even more. Ray believes that it is a privilege to be able to work with members to achieve their goals. His favorite thing about CrossFit is it’s ability provide the same intensity and movement to all ages and skill levels in one setting. Ray is a Bronze Star recipient and has lead teams on multiple deployments in over 10 Countries. Outside of the gym, he spends most of my time with Coach Cindy and their 3 kids who also attend the CrossFit Kids classes at Crooked Letter. He had coached some classes there, but wasn’t certified and knew very little about Olympic Weightlifting. Once E-Fitness closed, and he started a new job at Ingalls Shipbuilding, he began doing CrossFit at home on his own.  In 2015, Coach Aaron asked him to do a competition with him and Chad. Up until that point, Todd just did CrossFit because it was fun and it reminded him of the workouts they would do for football.  After the three won their division in the competition, that’s when he made CrossFit a lifestyle. Todd joined the Crooked Letter family right after that. Todd is now going on his 2nd year of coaching at Crooked Letter. Last year, he started teaching and coaching football at D’Iberville High School. Outside of the gym, Todd spends time with his wife, Stephanie, and kids, Jacee and Rock.
